Team Geneva will be heading to Las Vegas, Nevada this week to attend the 2011 12th Annual Expedia Conference to represent Geneva Hospitality’s properties including The Cove of Lake Geneva in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and Mike Ditka Resorts in Kissimmee, Florida. The event will be held on December 7th and 8th and will include a welcome reception, tradeshow, learning sessions, and a holiday party.

1. Always Remember Safety First
When visiting a new area, it is always important to remember that there are good and bad parts of town. In order to stay safe during your travels, be sure to research the area you are traveling on sites like TripAdvisor.com and Expedia.com, through user comments. You can also ask the concierge at your resort if there are any areas you should avoid.

2. Global Travel Service is Essential
If you happen to get sick or injured during your trip, it is important you have someone you can call and are able to get to a hospital where your native language is spoken. This is why it is absolutely essential that you have some form of global travel service. Christmas Around the World at Geneva Hospitality’s Resorts

Christmas celebrations in the United States usually begin between Thanksgiving Day leading up until the final days before December 25th, when you will begin to see Christmas trees covered in colorful lights, tinsel, and bright ornaments popping up inside houses. While exterior doorways, windows, roofs, and shrubs are covered in strings of lights, as well as life-sized reindeer, snowmen, Santas, and nativity scenes being showcased on people’s lawns. During this time of year it becomes a pastime for American people to drive or walk around neighborhoods during the evening to see the lights displayed on other’s homes.

Since Christmas Eve is not the official holiday here, most people have to work, but many companies hold Christmas parties and celebrations on this day. In the evening, many people finish adding final touches to their homes or visit with family members. Some people also attend a midnight mass at church and participate in singing carols.

After dinner on Christmas Eve, children head to bed early, but not before leaving out cookies and milk for Santa Claus, and maybe ever a carrot for Rudolf. The next morning they awake to find surprises under the tree from Santa Claus.

Christmas Day is then usually spent celebrating with family and friends.

The religious celebrations begin on December 16th where an early morning mass (Misa de Aguinaldo) is held every morning leading up to December 24th when mass is held at midnight (Misa de Gallo).

On December 25th, Christmas Day, children awaken to find gifts around the Nativity Scene or Christmas tree. And their tradition has it that it is the Child Jesus who brings gifts to the Venezuelan children instead of Santa Claus.

The Christmas festivities officially come to an end on January 6th, the Day of the Reyes Magos, when children again will receive toys and candies. Christmas is the main holiday when all Venezuelan families come together and celebrate.

Christmas in Spain includes the usual Christmas festivities which can be found elsewhere, but there is one tradition that isn’t very common called Hogueras (bonfires), and it is a tradition that originated long before Christmas. It is the observance of the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year, and the beginning of winter. During these bonfires, people jump over fires as a symbolic protection against illness.

The more common traditions include very elaborate Nacimiento (nativity scenes), Christmas trees, and incredible Christmas markets scattered around villages and cities. These markets include fruits, flowers, sweets, candles, decorations, and various types of handmade gifts.
Christmas Eve is interrupted at midnight by the ringing of bells calling the families to La Misa Del Gallo (The Mass of the Rooster).

Christmas in Spain continues for a few weeks past Christmas until January 6th. On January 5th, children place their shoes on their doorstep, and in the middle of the night, the three wise men pass leaving gifts behind. On January 6th, the day is celebrated with parades were candy and cakes are given out to children.

Mike Ditka Resorts Announces Their New Website!

Geneva Hospitality’s Mike Ditka Resorts has announced their new website! The new website includes both Mike Ditka Resorts properties, Mike Ditka Resorts – Runaway Beach Club and Mike Ditka Resorts – Lighthouse Key Resort and Spa. The website features a new look, including a clean and simple design, and will improve functionality through re-organization of content on the site and improved navigation to help with the usability of the site.

The site has made use of current website technology to display different types of information including rotating banners of current happenings and specials at the Resort, as well as rotating images of the Resort and its amenities.

Overall, the newly redesigned website’s navigational tools, updated graphics and layouts, new fonts, and use of current technology will help user’s access information about the Resorts more quickly and effortlessly, which will in turn continue to improve customer satisfaction.

According to GovRooms.com, it’s “the newest site for searching for per diem hotels for federal travelers and state government travelers. While there are many other sites that list per diem hotels, GovRooms is the only one which allows searches for government rate hotels on a map, which means you’re able to find the closest per diem hotel to where you need to go.

Turkey Trot:

Construction has officially begun on the Caribbean’s newest luxury resort, Caracola Beach and Spa Resort, on Isla Margarita. Corn Field Mazes

One of the greatest things about the fall is the new seasonal activities that arrive….one of the best being corn mazes! So grab a friend or your family and get lost for an afternoon! One of the closest corn mazes to Lake Geneva is at the Richardson Adventure Farm, which is home to the world’s largest corn maze!

Lake Geneva Hope Walk

Join your friends and family this Saturday, September 25th for the 3rd Annual Lake Geneva Hope Walk. The Hope Walk is a noncompetitive walk along the beautiful Lake Geneva Shore Path to help support and educate on the prevention of breast cancer.

The walk begins with registration and a start time between 7am and 9am at Library Park in Lake Geneva. The walk will start at Library Park and have participants walking to Williams Bay and back, but participants can turn around at anytime. The round trip walk is 14 miles and will take about 5 hours to complete.

Proceeds of this year’s Hope Walk will go to benefit the Aurora Healthcare Breast Treatment Assistance Program.

So get your walking shoes on and help support a great cause this weekend!

Scramble for a Cure

Not much of a walker? How about golfing for a cure? This Wednesday, September 29th the Evergreen Golf Course in Elkhorn will be holding the Second Annual Scramble for a Cure. The outing will be raising money to help fight breast cancer, with all proceeds being donated to Paul Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UW Hospital.

Labor Day Weekend is upon us

Throughout 2010, The Cove of Lake Geneva will be hosting a Chef’s Tabling Event once a month. These tabling events will provide local restaurants with a chance to showcase their food to The Cove’s prospective group businesses.

The first Chef’s Tabling Event was held on Tuesday, January 20, 2010 and was catered by Egg Harbor in Lake Geneva. Guests were provided with a delicious lunch, conversation, and a few surprises.

Next month, the Chef’s Tabling Event will be catered by Panera Bread in Delavan.

Geneva Hospitality’s The Cove of Lake Geneva will be sending Stephanie and Tom Wottreng on an all expenses paid vacation to Las Vegas, NV on February 13-15th, 2010!

Stephanie and Tom were attendees of The Cove of Lake Geneva’s Kings and Queens Royal Gala which took place on October 2nd-4th, 2009, which was an event catered towards The Cove’s most select guests to show appreciation for their continued loyalty and patronage.

On Saturday night of this weekend long event, guests boarded the Lady of the Lake for a full lake tour of Geneva Lake. Guests’ spent their time aboard the boat trying their luck on several different types of table games, including: Texas hold ‘em, blackjack, roulette, and craps. Each guest was presented with a $5000 chip upon boarding the boat with the hopes to end the night with the highest winnings.

At the end of the night, prizes were awarded to the top five money winners. Stephanie had the highest winnings of the evening and was awarded an all inclusive trip to Las Vegas!

Stephanie and her husband Tom will enjoy round trip airfare aboard AirTran Airways and will be spending a wonderful weekend at The Mirage on the Las Vegas strip.

Construction Has Begun on Geneva Hospitality’s Newest Resort

Construction has officially begun on Geneva Hospitality’s newest resort, Caracola Beach and Spa Resort, located on Isla Margarita, and the resort is scheduled to open in July 2011.

The resort will feature 1244 one and two bedroom luxury suites spread over 15 floors with nearly all having breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea. Each suite will be constructed of the highest standards and will feature a fully-fitted modern kitchen, inviting living room, tranquil balcony, and climate controlled air conditioning system.

One of the best times to visit Geneva Hospitality’s Palatinum Golf, Spa, and Sport Resort is when there is a festival taking place in Murcia, Spain. These festivals are a great time for visitors to better understand the area and its traditions.

The Holy Week procession, which is hosted by the city, is the most famous festival throughout all of Spain. This traditional festival portrays the events that lead up to the Crucifixion of Jesus according to the New Testament. During this festival, life sized sculptures, created by Francisco Salzillo, are removed from Salzillo’s museum and paraded around town in an elegant procession among flowers and candles.
These sculptures pause at stations which are meant to reenact the final moments before the Crucifixion.

The Huerta Parade, the most colorful festival in Murcia, comes the Tuesday after Holy Week where locals dress up in traditional huertano clothing to celebrate and on Saturday they fill the streets for the Entierro de la Sardina (Burial of the Sardine) parade.

Also, Murcia celebrates Three Cultures International Festival each May. The festival was originally organized with the intent of overcoming racism between the three cultures that reside there: Christians, Jews, and Muslims. Each year, the festival celebrates these three cultures through music, exhibitions, symposiums, and conferences.

Porlamar- This is the biggest city on Isla Margarita and is known for its commercial center. It has a wide variety of shops and restaurants, sure to appeal to every taste. Boulevard Guevara, a narrow, store-lined road, is the best place to shop at good prices. The city also has two major beaches: Playa Moreno and Playa Guacuco.

Pampatar- This is the home to most of the largest shopping malls on Isla Margarita, including Sambil Margarita, Rattan Depot, Centro Commercial Avenida Bolivar, and La Redoma. It also houses the Castillo de San Carlos de Borromeo, which was constructed entirely of coral and built on the waterfront of the town center to protect the bay of Pampatar.

La Asuncion- This is the oldest city on Isla Margarita and is the capital of the Federal State of Nueva Esparta. It is also the center of the commercial and manufacturing industries, which include the growing of cotton, sugarcane, coconuts, and cassava.

Juan Griego- This city has small shopping centers and beaches, but is well known for the fortress La Galera. La Galera is not far from the center of the city and it is where the fierce battle of independence was fought in the 1820’s.

Geneva Hospitality Gives Back This Holiday Season

Geneva Hospitality’s Resorts are all about giving back to their communities, especially during the holidays. This season two of Geneva Hospitality’s Resorts are participating in charitable causes to help those living in their communities.
Mike Ditka Resorts has become an official ’adopt an angel’ location for the 2009 Angel Tree Program which aims to provide the children in Orange County with joy and happiness this holiday season.

Mike Ditka Resorts will be placing a Christmas tree at their resort where employees or guests can ‘adopt an angel’. The tree will be decorated with angel tags which will provide a first name, age, and gender of a child who will receive a gift. Contributors may remove one or more tags from the tree and purchase appropriate clothes and/or toys for the child.

Mike Ditka Resorts will be accepting new, unwrapped clothing and/or toys for these children until December 8th.

The Cove of Lake Geneva is also participating by once again becoming an official drop-off location for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Two of Geneva Hospitality’s resorts are celebrating Halloween this October 31st.

The Cove of Lake Geneva is hosting a Halloween Monster Bash which will include both an adult party and a children’s party starting at 7pm until 1am.

The adult Halloween party will feature music and dancing, with an open bar from 7–9pm (cash bar thereafter) with pizza served at 11pm. A costume contest will also be held and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners. The 1st place winner will win a free overnight stay at the Cove!

For those attending the adult party, there will be a supervised children’s party that will start with a costume contest from 6:30-7 pm with awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Bring the Whole Family to The Cove on Halloween for A Frightening Good Time

No plans for how to celebrate Halloween yet? Well throw on your scariest Halloween costume and join The Cove of Lake Geneva for a frightening good time at the Halloween Monster Bash. We are hosting both an adult party and a children’s party on Saturday October 31st which will start at 7pm and run until 1am.

The adult Halloween party will feature music and dancing, with an open bar from 7–9pm (cash bar thereafter) with pizza served at 11pm. A costume contest will also be held and prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prize winners. The 1st place winner will win a free overnight stay at the Cove!

For those attending the adult party, there will be a supervised children’s party that will start with a costume contest from 6:30-7 pm with awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Pizza will be served from 7-8 pm followed by trick or treating throughout the hallways of The Cove until 9pm. The remainder of the evening will be spent playing fun Halloween games and watching child-friendly Halloween movies until parents arrive to pick them up at 1am.

‘Toys for Tots’ is back at The Cove of Lake Geneva

What better way to get in the Christmas spirit this year then to help someone in need? Well that’s just what we are doing here at The Cove of Lake Geneva and we would love your help.

Through the US Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program, The Cove will once again be accepting new, unwrapped toys that will be distributed to the children in the community to help them experience the joys of Christmas.

The ultimate success of this program depends on the generosity of the community and their gracious donations, with not only the intention to help children in need, but to unite all members of this community.

The toy collection will run from October to December here at The Cove.

The Cove of Lake Geneva is Keeping Up With The Changing Seasons

As our surroundings are transforming with the changing seasons outside, we are keeping up with them at The Cove of Lake Geneva. If you take a look outside you will see that fall colors are now among us, from the vibrant reds and yellows of the changing leaves to the bright orange pumpkins and multi-colored gourds that are popping up on porches.

The Cove of Lake Geneva is joining in the fall festivities by decorating for the changing seasons, as well. From the moment you step up to The Cove’s front doors you will notice vibrant fall displays of pumpkins, gourds, dried Indian corn, and haystacks that fill the front entry way and travel all the way through the main lobby back to the seating area and lobby bar.

The Cove of Lake Geneva’s sales manager Donna Sylvester recently attended a Circle Wisconsin informative seminar in Milwaukee, WI at the Hilton Garden Inn which focused on members sharing ideas with one another on promoting their businesses.

Circle Wisconsin, a statewide destination marketing organization, aims to specifically promote the group travel agency in Wisconsin and around the world. They are in charge of scheduling day tours and overnight events, both locally and out of state.

At this specific meeting, Donna learned about:

• different ideas on capturing the group travel market
• various promotions to acquire group business
• networking opportunities that included:
o Familiarization Tours
o Seminars
o Upcoming Circle Wisconsin events

“Tour groups are always looking for ideas such as boat tours, dinner shows, (and) special events that would be of interest to their tour groups,” she said.

One of Circle Wisconsin’s main objectives is to create a positive image of Wisconsin and promote it as a great place to do business, and The Cove of Lake Geneva has joined the list of businesses that use Circle Wisconsin as a way to further their group travel market.

Three Lucky Couples Won a Royal Weekend at The Cove of Lake Geneva

Three lucky couples enjoyed a complimentary vacation this past weekend at The Cove of Lake Geneva where they joined an exclusively chosen group of Kings and Queens Royal Gala attendees. The Kings and Queens Royal Gala event, hosted by The Cove, was their way to say “thank you” to guests for their continued patronage to the resort.

These three couples won their vacations by submitting a 250 word essay to The Cove that answered the question: “Why is The Cove your favorite vacation getaway?” And while only one response was to be chosen as the winner, the three winner’s responses were so heartfelt they all received invitations to the Kings and Queens Royal Gala, where they spent their weekends’ being pampered like royalty. Attendees of the gala received a complimentary weekend which included accommodations, an opening reception, a golf outing, soothing spa services, tabling games aboard The Lady of the Lake which cruised Geneva Lake Saturday night, a farewell brunch, gifts, and prizes.

The Cove's first Royal Gala

Everyone definitely had a great time this weekend at The Cove of Lake Geneva’s first royal Kings and Queens Gala. This weekend was all about our guests and their continued loyalty and patronage to The Cove resort. Guests were treated to hor dourves and cocktails on Friday night where many participated in our wandering poker game and had their pictures taken in King or Queen attire.

On Saturday guests were treated to their choice of golfing at Hawks View Golf Course, Lake Geneva’s only 5-star rated course, spa services including manicures, pedicures, or massages by Salon 180, one of Lake Geneva’s premier salons, or a day of shopping in downtown Lake Geneva using exclusive discounts provided just for them.

The day rounded off with a tour of Geneva Lake aboard the Lady of the Lake where guests participated in poker style table games and the top 5 money winners won prizes. The first place prize was a trip to Las Vegas!
On Sunday guests were invited to a farewell brunch to round out their weekend and were given time to relax and reminisce about their weekends.

The Cove of Lake Geneva hosted the Kings and Queens Royal Gala October 2nd - October 4th. Invited were their top-notch guests and groups whose loyalty has show over the years to The Cove of Lake Geneva. Media personalities were in attendance as well. Friday night was the opening reception with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres served while listening to the soothing music of a professional harpist. A poker game was played during the night with the winner receiving an extra in $2000 playing money at the Casino Night held on Saturday. Everyone had a wonderful time! The event can be followed on Twitter #covegala. Saturday seen guests treated to golf at Lake Geneva's 5 star championship golf course and others receiving spa services in The Cove's Map Room. Golf kits were given to those in attendence for the golf outing. Spa gift bags were given to those guests receiving spa services. Exclusive shopping discounts were available downtown Lake Geneva to those attending the Kings and Queens Royal Gala. At 7:00 guests boarded The Lady of the Lady cruise boat for a tour of Lake Geneva with table games aboard for those to test their luck. Horse and carriage rides were given from the resort to the boat. Cocktails and heavy hors d'oeuvres were served throughout the night while listing to big band music aboard the cruise. Prizes were awarded to the top 5 winners with the grand prize being a trip to Las Vegas with hotel and airfare included. Guests then headed back to the resort to find turndown service and chololate fudge awaiting them in their luxury suites. Luxury suites were also complimentary during the weekend. Photos were taken during the golf outing of the foursomes and of the guests in robes and crowns on Friday night to remember their Kings and Queens weekend. The photos were placed in the guests suites as a surprise while they attended the casino boat cruise. Sunday morning saw a farewell brunch for guests before they headed home from their most fabulous complimentary weekend at The Cove of Lake Geneva. Many thanks were given as guests had a completely complimentary weekend that they will always remember!
